St Thomas Elgin General Hospital - St Thomas, ON
This project was funded entirely by St Thomas local sponsors, who are members of Landscape Ontario!
Our fourth installation site was unique in many ways; however the most memorable way was that it was funded entirely by local sponsors in St. Thomas, who are members of Landscape Ontario. The tree was donated by Canadale Nurseries, the bench came from Silverthorn Landscape Supplies and the installation was taken care of by Beamish Landscape and Kettle Creek Landscape! Bob Allen, another Landscape Ontario member, helped coordinate all these sponsors and hospital representatives to make this happen. Thank you all for donating to our initiative!
St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital serves not only the city of St. Thomas, located south of London, but all seven other municipalities in the County of Elgin. The hospital provides a wide range of services to this population, as well as 24/7 emergency department that is open to the public, and labour and delivery services. The next closest hospital is in London, which is approximately half an hour away from St. Thomas.
The bench and tree were installed along the main staff entrance at the hospital. With this location, the frontline workers who are coming in for their shifts will pass by it every day and be reminded of the appreciation of Canadians. They are also welcome to take their breaks or lunch here, as there are many surrounding picnic tables for other workers to join and enjoy the gift of rest.
The installation for the St Thomas Elgin General Hospital was completed on September 22, 2021, again on National Tree Day. The dedication ceremony was held on October 1, 2021, with the local sponsors, hospital staff, and a 1 Bench 1 Tree representative.
Thank you, Frontline-Heroes of St Thomas for your tireless efforts throughout the pandemic. Your service is appreciated and not forgotten!
