Why is the initiative just 1 Bench 1 Tree, why not add multiple benches and/or trees?

Some hospitals will have the capacity to have more than one bench/tree; however, some hospitals have very little green space. We wanted to have a design that all hospitals in Canada would be able to install.

What type of tree would you be planting?

We are planting native, deciduous trees at all our sites. Please refer to the design guidelines for recommended trees, such as sugar maple and oak tree species.

How will the 1 Bench 1 Tree initiative be taken Nationally?

Currently, we are starting our installations in Ontario hospitals, but we do have a plan to move out to the rest of Canada.

How do I Donate, and where is my money going?

You can donate by clicking the DONATE button at the top-right of this website. There you will find instructions of how to donate to the cause.

The money will go towards materials (tree, bench, and pavers) and labour for installations. Any donations that are in excess of what is needed to fund our project will be forwarded to our partner, the Canadian Mental Health Association.

1 Bench 1 Tree is all run by volunteers, and we/they receive no pay

What type of bench would you be installing?

We are partnering with Maglin Site Furniture to provide benches to our site. A bench detail will be provided to hospitals.

How much space will it take up?

Ideally, the bench and tree will be 2 meters apart to symbolize the recommended physical distance during the COVID-19 pandemic. Benches are 1.8 meters long.

How will the installation take place?

Many hospitals have grounds crews and maintenance workers, whom we will work with during the installation process. If a hospital does need substantial support for an installation, we will be setting everything up

How can I sign up my hospital?

While we are planning on reaching out to every hospital as the time comes, we do appreciate anyone who is particularly interested in the project and would like an installation to be done at an earlier date.

How long will it take for installation?

Once everything is planned out, it should take a day to install the pavers, bench, and tree. We will need some time to plan everything out, but our team will take care of this!

How long will the installation last, what maintenance is needed?

Typical tree maintenance will be needed to ensure the longevity of the tree. Benches may need replacing in 10 years.
